We are in a dark place. That which made us human turns out to be very fragile. Hatred seems to be a stronger emotion than love, anger more intense than understanding. Those who lead us no longer serve us but only their interest. We are tribal, only comfortable with those who look, speak, and worship like us. In God’s name, people killed, dismembered, and ripped children from their mothers, laughed and killed. They are worse than animals.
I am filled with revolution and try to eliminate the feeling of revenge. Seeing people celebrate the barbaric acts that befell Israel brings tears to my eyes, just as thinking about the misery of innocent people in Gaza does the same.
Seeing how the people of Israel have come together to help those who have lost everything is the only light in the darkness, but then the darkness comes back when I realize what we must now do to the killers of our children and, in the process, kill other children. It is madness, and it is all of us that are insane.
I love you Avram and Israel, I am so grateful you wrote this. “Those who lead us no longer serve us but only their interest”. This is a dark time and I pray for all of the people of Israel and for those in Gaza. I am grateful you and Deb are safe and sad that you cannot at this point return to your home and the people you love in Israel. If there is something tangible I can do to support Israel and you please let me know. I pray and lead with love, it seems all I have for now.

Avram, I agree completely. The constant news from the Middle East is heartbreaking. I say this as somebody who watched the Vietnam War play out and saw a neighbor’s brother’s body brought home on her wedding day. I wish the US were doing more to quiet the situation, but we have madness here at home. The success of propaganda and media in shaping these horrors is clear, but I have no idea how humanity can overcome the constant anger, hatred, and fear we face today. I’d like to believe that this, too, shall pass, but I can’t see how or when.
