Why the USA’s (and other countries’ ) approach to vaccine development is wrong

Sometime around October, the FDA is likely to authorize a new version of the Covid vaccination by Pfizer and Moderna and maybe others.   This version was developed to be more effective against the Omicron version of Covid.  But we have long since moved on from that Omicron.  The issue is the FDA wants both safety and efficacy data.  It takes a long time to gather that information.  It makes no sense given the rapid rate of mutation of the Covid virus.  Frankly, it is stupid.  Given that these vaccines are RNA basied, changing them is really something that should be done rapidly.  It would be easy to test if it is effective by looking at the antibodies generated.  There should be no additional safety risks in my opinion.  But there is certainly a safety risk in not having an effective vaccine.  If the FDA doesn’t get a brain soon (something they have been lacking for a long time), many will suffer.  Other countries like mine, Israel, wait on the FDA which is also stupid. The USA can no longer be considered the thought leader in health.
