The median age of an Egyptian is 24 years old. While the Egyptian economy has been growing well over 5% a year during recent times it can not keep up with the number of people entering the work force. In fact none of the developing countries with large youth populations will be able to provide economic opportunity to the their youth who want to find work, marry and have children. Continue reading

Economics: Science or Astrology
I have been having been thinking a great deal about economics. The market crash of 2008 was my inspiration to understand more, that along with a series of discussion with my son, Asher, who is the Executive Director of the Post Carbon Institute. It was Asher who introduced me to the work of Chris Martenson … Continue reading
observations from my recent stay in Israel
I am still trying to process my recent eight day experience in Israel. I entered Israel from Egypt, driving from Sharm el Sheikh to the Israeli border at Talba and walked into Eilat. The trip through Sinai was amazing, awesome and beautiful. It took me about ten minutes to cross the border and neither side … Continue reading
Sinai and Gaza
Today, in the tour office where I was arranging a boat trip for tomorrow, I saw a map. It showed three countries, Egypt, Palestine (which covered all the area of Palestine and Israel) and Jordon. Not one Israeli city was on the map include Eilat. I wondered if this was an old map, a current map or a horrible dream of a future without Israel. It was ironic that I saw this in a tour office. Israel was the country the developed Sharm as a tourist destination during the period it occupied Sinai and it turned all that over to the Egyptians who built extended the work the Israelis did in developing Sharm as a tourist destination Continue reading

Maybe the economic crises will save the world
As I have often said, “Cancer saved my life”. When I was 51 years old, I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Several months later I was treated with radiation therapy. It has now been almost 12 years and I seem to be fine. Many would say I was cured. But back in 1996 when I … Continue reading
Not about politics but about good versus evil
Chris Nolan who is the editor and founder of Spot On (www.spot-on.com). Interviewed me the recent presidential election and why I was such a strong supporter of Obama when I had been suggesting ten years earlier that the Internet was going to make Goverment and Politics less relivant. You can read her post here. But … Continue reading
Barack is the real thing
Tonight, my wife and I had the privilege of attending a small reception for Barack Obama at the home of Ann and Gordon Getty. All I can say, is he is more impressive and more fun in person than on TV. They closed off the street in front of the Getty’s home which is on … Continue reading
